McGreevey Whitman’s Good Times theme
State Senator James E. McGreevey unveils its first television advertising with what his strategists say today, its embassy in the next six weeks: the state of the economy could be stronger, but New Jersey voters still pay some of the most Senior Car insurance and real estate taxes in the nation.
By highlighting these two themes, polls show awards are now the biggest concerns of voters, Mr. McGreevey, the Democratic governor-designate, is trying to undermine Dir Christine Todd Whitman’s campaign theme that the state in the right direction under his leadership.
”If the governor does not say that things are great?”, Says Thomas Oppel, Struble Oppel Donovan, a political consulting firm in Washington, that the board is Mr. McGreevey campaign for Governor.
”We say today that this is another page of history, and these are questions which they do not speak.”
The governor of the campaign, aides, it offers a quick retort. ”I’ll go out and see the sun rise,’’said Pete McDonough, a spokesman for Mrs. Whitman’s campagne”et foot and outside to see the sky.”
As a result of motor insurance in the centre of his re-election campaign during the summer, Governor Whitman has been tried for the campaign by far the debate in the direction of their insurance and benefits during its first mandate.
In his first TV ad released last week, Mrs. Whitman cited her record to say that lower taxes, the economy, reduce crime and receiving welfare to work. In another city, published this week, she criticized Mr. McGreevey, the increase in taxes as mayor of Woodbridge Township, and for voting in favor of Dir Jim Florio’s $ 2.8 billion increase in value added tax in 1990.
Indeed, Ms. Whitman has benefited, within the Office, at a time when the economy of New Jersey is faster than New York and Connecticut.
But although New Jersey has recovered almost lost jobs during the recession of late 1980 and early 1990’s, Mr. McGreevey often said, most of the profits have been lower wages in employment, which are not the same wages and benefits than jobs in production, has been lost.
And while the state’s economy is now bustling, the cost of living in New Jersey has become more expensive, a question, Mr. McGreevey advisers have said, they would have in the campaign.
”There are two new jerseys,’’said Douglas E. Schoen, of Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates in New York City, Mr. McGreevey opinion researchers. ”It is the one from New Jersey, the whirlwind, but it is also a New Jersey, where people are not likely to bring their property or their taxes automatically insured. People feel squeezed out.”
In his message, Mr. McGreevey tries Mock the governor of their claims on New Jersey’s healthy economy.
At the beginning of his body, an actress with the back of the aircraft, includes an overview of the Governor, the waves are often a sign, sports fans, who said,”We”# 1
”Yes, New Jersey’s No. 1,’’said an announcer sarcastically, before being given the costs for taxes and auto insurance.
The 30 second spot also cites another problem M. McGreevey’s consultants expect to focus on the following points: management Whitman’s grant of $ 2.76 billion in loans earlier this year, the largest loan State history. Borrowing from a deficit in the pension plan of State that the governor had contributed to less money in the pension, insurance as a mathematician said, was necessary. Taxpayer pays more than $ 10 billion over the next 35 years to pay resulting from borrowings.
Mrs. Whitman has defended the loans and said that taxpayers money over the long term.
In another campaign development, independent of the Office of Legislative Services, which analyzes the costs and feasibility of the proposed national legislation, said today that the proposal by Mr. McGreevey to reduce automobile insurance rates by Decree-law could be unconstitutional. His proposal of 10 percent above-board Premium is the focal point off its plan to reduce auto insurance rates.
Analysts have also said, McGreevey plan, an executive, in part, that all insurance companies of their tax rate niedriger”würde probably by the governor of the Authority.”
Mr. McGreevey aid the campaign, according to analysts from the recognition that was requested by a Republican Senator from the State, Gerald Cardinale of Bergen County, is chairman of the Senate committee, invoices for insurance. Mr. McGreevey staff said he thought that his proposal to judicial review.
